Day 9: Deuteronomy 6:6-7

And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Following up from yesterday, in Matthew 22, Jesus was referencing Deuteronomy 6:5. The next verse, Deut 6:7 clarifies that this is core to parental responsibility. Verse 6, however, focuses on the parent’s heart. There is a leadership principle illustrated here, that you can’t lead someone where you aren’t going. You will flounder and struggle to lead your children to love God with all their hearts if you don’t.

Day 9 Reflection:

Where can you see that your heart is mesmerized by something other than God?

How can you strengthen your love for God so you can teach your teen to clear out his heart to love God supremely and care for others deeply?

What loves do you need to re-prioritize as you prepare to teach and train your child to love God with all his heart?
