Day 6: Matthew 5:19

Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 5:19

Often we want to bend the Bible truths and relax them to help excuse ourselves or our children. We must be careful to apply the truth of Scripture accurately to our family and to ourselves. When we bend or “relax” a biblical truth, our kids can see that and then rationalize their own bending of truth so they can do what they want to do. Around Victory I call it “smoking your own brand of flesh.” Kids rightfully conclude that parents get to choose the sin they want, so they don’t feel bad sneaking around to do their sin of choice that they justify. This verse gives a pretty harsh condemnation of those who water down the pungent crispness of the Words of God, which draws our attention to the enormity of the impact on those around us (like our children).

Day 6 Reflection:

What are some of God’s commandments you’ve relaxed or grown to ignore? List them, then pray for re-commitment to following the Lord.
